ELSTHORPE BRIDGE STRENGTHENING

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In Elsthorpe, Hawke’s Bay, Rycroft Construction was engaged to strengthen an existing bridge to meet updated engineering and load requirements. The project involved installing a new steel pile bent system beneath the bridge to provide additional support and stability to the existing structure.

PROJECT DETAILS

KEY CAPABILITIES DEMONSTRATED

  • Design and installation of a custom steel pile bent system.

  • Precision steelwork using UC piles, UB cross beams, and PFC bracing.

  • Integration of new structural support into an existing bridge framework.

  • Application of protective Goldseal coating for enhanced durability.

  • Delivery of a compliant, high-capacity bridge structure rated to 55 tonnes.

    • 18 m long × 4 m wide bridge deck.

    • Four 250 UC piles driven to 9 m depth with a 610 UB cross beam supporting the deck.

    • 250 PFC bracing members installed for lateral stability.

    • New 180 mm-thick concrete deck slabs, rated for 55 tonnes.

    • All steel components coated in Goldseal for long-term corrosion protection.

  • To reinforce and extend the life of an existing bridge by adding structural support to the abutments, ensuring compliance with engineering requirements and improved load performance.

  • Private agricultural client, Elsthorpe, Hawke’s Bay.
